Have heard this over and over from the internet in the recent past. And boy doesn’t it make sense? My average screen time on phone used to clock around 8 hrs per day, a few years back. Whatsapp, instagram, youtube, netflix – the major culprits. Tired eyes, terrible sleep, lethargy followed. Over time, developed some sense and stopped this madness. Well, by now most of us are really aware about doomscrolling and brain rot etc. I’m not going to write about it here.

Consumption happens through every medium. Video, audio, text. When it overflows, what happens? In my experience, there is information and cognitive overload. Over-consumption of entertainment made me feel super slow on everything else. Should I go out to buy veggies? Nah, let’s order it. Should I clean the house? Nah, let’s do it later. Should I make dinner? Nah, let’s order it. We’ve all gone through this. Right?

Sometime in the past I heard the phrase, which is the title of this blog. Create more than you consume. It was logical to understand, all that I consumed was somebody’s creation and it added some value to me. If it was some comedy TV show, I laughed, I was happy. If it was an audiobook, I listened and added somebody’s wisdom to my own. You might think I sound so contradicting. Earlier I wrote about being lazy and now I write about consumption adding value. Well, both are right, aren’t they? Moderation is the key. Consumption in excess brings absolute chaos to one’s life in my opinion. You struggle to get priorities done, you struggle to focus.

I cautiously started reducing my screen time few years back. When at work, I kept the phone in pocket or turned it upside down on desk. I turned off notifications for all the apps except kite and tradingview. Yeah, I wanted order status and price alerts for my positions. 😉 This single action itself helped to cut the urge to check the phone every few minutes.

Then one day I decided to create. I do bodyweight workouts at home, so shooting them meant just to buy a tripod and attach my phone. That helped me learn basics of video editing. Then I started to journal. I mean, literally write on my notebook first thing in the morning. Topics varied: about the day before, about planning for future, about priorities for today, about anything that I learned. The kind of clarity it brought was immense. It forced me to think and understand better about topics I came across.

Creation doesn’t mean big projects, small acts count as much. This blog is another attempt to improve my ‘creation’ journey. More coming!
